While Halocard has successfully processed transactions at Apple Developer Program, this isn't a guarantee of acceptance. Merchant acceptance can change at any time, and merchants can apply fraud and risk-based controls that prevent individual customers from using US-issued cards at checkout. We recommend using Halocard to make a test payment with Apple Developer Program in your own situation to confirm acceptance.

Tips for successful payments at Apple Developer

  • AcceptedIf you enroll as an individual on the web, pay with a card in your own legal name, the same name you enroll under. Apple delays the enrollment and asks for photo ID when the card belongs to someone else.
  • AcceptedTo enroll in the Apple Developer app, first add the card to the Apple Account signed in to your device's settings. It can be a different Apple Account from the one you enroll with.
  • AcceptedApple adds tax to the $99 fee at the rate for your state where it applies, so allow for a total above $99.
  • AcceptedFor a membership bought on the web, turn on Auto-renew under Membership details in your account, or renew by hand from 30 days before the expiration date.

Why do Apple Developer payments decline?

Your payment method is declined in the Apple Developer app
The app bills through your Apple Account. Add a different payment method under Settings, your name, Payment & Shipping, remove the old one and subscribe again. Apple says it has no information on why a method was declined, so ask the card issuer, including whether international purchases are allowed.
A card error at the web checkout
The web purchase runs through the Apple Store Online. Check that a new or reissued card is activated, then the card type, number and expiry date, and remove any dashes or spaces. Make sure the billing address on the order matches the card account.
Enrollment delayed after paying with someone else's card
Apple requires an individual to pay with their own credit card and asks for a copy of government-issued photo ID when the card is not theirs. Send the ID Apple asks for, or pay with a card in your own name.
Apple Account balance is not offered for the membership
Apple does not take Apple Account balances, from redeemed Apple Gift Cards or added funds, for Apple Developer Program memberships. Add a credit or debit card to your Apple Account, then subscribe again.

Apple Developer payment FAQ

What should I do if Apple Developer declines or doesn't support my card?
Pay with a Halocard instead. Apple Developer accepts it, and as a US-issued Visa credit card held in US dollars it is accepted at checkouts that are strict about card type or country. Halocard is available for customers in the US and 120+ countries, so check that your country is supported, then make a card for Apple Developer in minutes. See the countries Halocard supports.
Can I use a virtual card for Apple Developer?
Yes. Apple Developer accepts Halocard, a US-issued Visa credit card that works like a debit card. Make a card just for Apple Developer and you are in full control: set a limit, lock it or cancel it whenever you like, without ever handing Apple Developer your bank card.
How do I stop Apple Developer charging me after I cancel?
The fastest way is to lock the Halocard you use for Apple Developer. Halocard is a US-issued Visa credit card that gives you a separate card for each merchant, and locking one takes a couple of clicks in your Halocard dashboard. Apple Developer can't charge that card again until you unlock it, so you stay in full control even when cancelling is slow or hard to find. To cancel with Apple Developer as well: If you subscribed in the Apple Developer app, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and cancel up to one day before the renewal date. If you enrolled on the web, renewal follows the Auto-renew setting under Membership details in your account. You keep your benefits until the expiration date, and Apple's license agreement says the annual fee is non-refundable.
What payment methods does the Apple Developer Program accept?
On the Apple Developer website you choose from the payment methods shown at purchase, and Apple's help pages describe paying by credit or debit card. In the Apple Developer app, the membership is billed to a payment method on your Apple Account, which can be a card, Apple Pay or PayPal. Apple Account balance, including redeemed Apple Gift Cards, is not accepted for memberships.
How much does the Apple Developer Program cost?
The Apple Developer Program is $99 per membership year. The Apple Developer Enterprise Program, for organizations that distribute private apps to their employees, is $299 per year. Apple shows the price in local currency during enrollment and adds tax where it applies. Extra Xcode Cloud compute hours are a separate monthly subscription, from $49.99 for 100 hours.
Is an Apple developer account free?
Registering is free. You sign in with your Apple Account, accept the Apple Developer Agreement and get tools such as beta versions of Xcode and the operating systems. Distributing apps on the App Store needs the paid membership. Nonprofits, accredited educational institutions and government entities that meet Apple's requirements can ask for a fee waiver when they enroll.
Can I keep my name private when I enroll in the Apple Developer Program?
No. Apple confirms your legal name, email, phone number and address when you enroll, and the Apple Developer app asks for a photo of a government-issued ID. An individual's legal name is shown as the seller of their apps on the App Store. To show a company name instead, the company must be a legal entity and enroll as an organization, which needs a D-U-N-S Number.
