Tips for successful payments at OpenAI

Why do OpenAI payments decline?

"Authentication required" or "3D Secure attempt failed": Allow pop-ups, turn off ad blockers and any VPN, and approve the payment in your bank's app or with its one-time code without closing or refreshing checkout. If it keeps failing, try a private window or another browser.
Your bank declined the payment: Re-enter the card number, expiry date, CVC and billing address with its ZIP code, clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again. OpenAI usually gets no detailed reason from the bank, so if it still fails ask the card issuer what blocked it.
An email saying an API auto-recharge failed: API calls stop once the balance runs out. Open the API billing overview and select Buy credits or Add to credit balance to pay manually.

Does ChatGPT accept PayPal or Google Pay?

No. OpenAI's multi-currency billing page lists credit and debit cards for every country, plus a wallet balance funded by OpenAI gift cards for purchases on the website. PayPal and Google Pay are not listed. A plan bought in the Android app is different: Google Play bills and manages that subscription with the card saved in your Google account.

Why was my ChatGPT card declined?

OpenAI's card declined article names three causes: your bank blocked the payment, a 3D Secure check was not completed, or you or the card issuer are outside a supported region. Its first steps are to re-enter the card details and billing address and clear the browser cache and cookies. OpenAI says it usually gets no detailed reason from the bank, so asking the card issuer is the quickest fix.

How do I pay for ChatGPT Plus?

Choose Plus on chatgpt.com and pay by card at checkout, then manage the plan under Settings, then Billing. You can also subscribe in the iPhone or Android app, where Apple or Google bills you. OpenAI recommends subscribing on the website if you use ChatGPT on several devices, and says to cancel an Apple or Google subscription first so you are not charged twice.
