Why do Anthropic payments decline?

Billing location not supported
Check that the card's billing address and its country are on Anthropic's supported billing locations list, and that the address you enter is in that country.
Billing address does not match the bank's record
Enter the billing address exactly as your card issuer has it on file, then try again. Anthropic says even a missing accent or a misspelled street name can cause a decline.
3D Secure verification not completed
Finish the check when the bank asks for it, by one-time code or in the bank's app, then try the payment again.
Unsupported payment method, such as PayPal or Venmo
Anthropic takes cards only on Pro, Max and Team. Enter a card directly instead of paying through a third-party processor.

Anthropic payment FAQ

How does Claude billing work?
Pro and Max plans are charged to the card on file at the start of each monthly or annual period and renew until you cancel. Usage credits and API credits are prepaid and billed separately, with their own receipts. Invoices are under Settings, then Billing, and are emailed with the subject line Your receipt from Anthropic. If you subscribed in the iPhone or Android app, Apple or Google bills you and holds your receipts.
Why did my Claude payment fail?
Anthropic's card declined article lists the usual causes: a billing location it does not support, a billing address that does not match the bank's record, an unfinished 3D Secure check, an unsupported method such as PayPal, or insufficient funds. Fix the cause and try again. Anthropic also suggests trying later, since temporary network problems can clear on their own, and asking the bank for the decline reason.
What is the ANTHROPIC charge on my card?
A Claude Pro, Max or Team renewal, a usage credit purchase, or API credits bought in the Claude Console. Usage credits are charged separately from the subscription, so two receipts in one month is normal. Check Settings, then Billing on claude.ai and the Console Billing page before disputing a charge. Anthropic cannot refund while a bank dispute is open.
How do I cancel my Claude subscription?
On claude.ai or Claude Desktop, click your initials, choose Settings, then Billing, and click Cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid another charge. You keep the plan until the period ends. In the iPhone or Android app, tap your initials, then Billing, then Manage subscription. See Anthropic's cancel your Pro or Max subscription article.
Can I get a refund from Anthropic?
Payments are non-refundable except where the Consumer Terms or the law say otherwise. To check eligibility, open Get help in claude.ai, send a message and choose Claude Refund Request. iPhone app purchases are refunded by Apple through its Report a Problem page, not by Anthropic. Anthropic cannot refund while a bank dispute is open. API credits are non-refundable and expire one year after purchase.
