AcceptedHalocard is accepted

Halocard is accepted at Steam. Steam accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB and PayPal, plus Steam Wallet funds. Most card declines are a failed address or CVV check, which Steam always rejects even when the bank approves the charge. The card must also come from the country set as your Steam store country.

How to pay for Steam with Halocard

01

Create a card for Steam in Halocard

In your Halocard dashboard, create a new card, name it Steam and set a limit that covers what you are about to pay.

02

Check your store country under Account Details

Click your profile name in the upper right and open Account Details to see your store country. Steam sets it from your first purchase and lets you change it once every 3 months, during checkout.

03

Pay at checkout or add funds to your Steam Wallet

Buy from your cart, or select Account Details, then +Add funds to your Steam Wallet, pick an amount and proceed to checkout. Enter the card number, expiry, CVV and billing address there.

Tips for successful payments at Steam

  • AcceptedEnter the street address and ZIP code exactly as your card issuer has them on file. Steam is stricter about this check than most online stores.
  • AcceptedTurn off any VPN or proxy and restart your computer before you pay. Steam declines every purchase started through an anonymous proxy.
  • AcceptedSteam caps what you add to and spend from your Steam Wallet at $2,000 in any 24-hour period. Larger deposits may not be credited until your activity drops below that.
  • AcceptedSelling on the Community Market? Steam cannot self-verify a virtual card, so expect a 3-day Market wait each time you pay with one.

Why do Steam payments decline?

"Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company due to an incorrect address being entered."
The billing address failed the check against your card issuer's records. Match the street address and ZIP code to those records exactly, then try once more. Any amount your bank set aside is released by the bank, not collected by Steam.
"Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company."
Check the card number, expiry and the 3-digit CVV2 code. Steam never accepts a payment that fails the CVV check. If the details are right, ask your card issuer about online spending limits or a fraud flag.
"An unexpected error has occurred. Your purchase has not been completed."
Turn off any VPN or proxy, restart your computer and try once or twice more with the correct billing details. Avoid repeated attempts. If it keeps failing, select the failed purchase on the Steam Help site and contact Steam Support.
Purchases fail while you are away from your store country
Steam needs a payment method from your current store country. Turn off any VPN and pay with a card from that country. New accounts cannot set a store country while travelling.

Steam payment FAQ

Why is my Steam purchase pending after it failed?
If the purchase failed an address or CVV check, your bank may hold the funds while it confirms the failure. Steam does not collect held funds. The bank releases them, which can take up to 30 days. Steam emails a link to retry the purchase at the same sale price for up to 72 hours.
Does Steam accept PayPal?
Yes. PayPal is listed among the payment methods that support refunds for buyers paying in dollars. In July 2025 PayPal stopped processing Steam purchases in currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD and USD, so purchases in dollars are not affected.
What is the STEAMGAMES.COM charge on my card?
It is a Steam purchase billed by Valve, such as a game, DLC, in-game items or Steam Wallet funds. Valve has no recurring fees unless a game subscription says so. Check Account Details, then View purchase history. If you do not recognize it, use the option for charges from Steam you did not make on the Steam Help site.
Can I use a prepaid card on Steam?
Yes. Steam's Subscriber Agreement lists prepaid cards as a way to fund the Steam Wallet. Most prepaid gift cards must first be registered on the issuer's website with your name and address. An unregistered card usually fails and the issuer may hold the amount for up to 30 days.
Should I ask for a refund or a chargeback?
Ask Steam for a refund. A purchase made within 14 days and played for under 2 hours qualifies automatically. A chargeback through your bank restricts the Steam account and the disputed purchases until the dispute is reversed, which can take up to 60 days.
