PayPal works for buying, not for verifying

Removing the card reverts your account

Controls
Give a card a daily, weekly or monthly limit and it declines anything above it.
A $20 monthly cap on the card you use for one subscription means a surprise price rise gets declined rather than charged. Limits apply per card and are editable at any time.
Both act immediately from the dashboard. Locking is reversible. The card authorises nothing until you unlock it, and then the same number carries on working. Cancelling retires the number for good, whatever the merchant has stored.
Lock the card you have misplaced or the subscription you are deciding about; cancel when you are done with a merchant entirely. Cancelling never strands money you are owed: refunds are credited to your account balance, not to the card, so they reach you either way.
Single-use cards cancel themselves the moment one transaction is successfully charged. No reminder to come back and switch it off.
It is the strongest defence against a merchant that quietly re-bills: the number simply is not there the second time.
Payments

Can I use a virtual credit card for Steam age verification?
Yes, provided it is a credit card. Steam's check looks at the card type, and Halocard issues virtual cards that have a Visa credit Bank Identification Number (BIN) rather than a prepaid or debit BIN. Why does Steam reject my debit card for age verification?
Because the check specifically asks for a credit card. Valve's stated reason for choosing cards over ID uploads and face scans is privacy, and a credit card is only issued to an adult, which is what makes it usable as a check. Debit, prepaid, and gift cards do not carry that signal, so Steam turns them away at this step even though they still work for purchases.
Which countries does Steam require a credit card in?
So far the United Kingdom, since August 2025, and Australia, since 9 September 2026 under the Age-Restricted Material App Distribution Services Code. In both, Steam asks for a credit card on the account before it will show mature-rated store pages.
Do I have to keep the card on my Steam account?
