Open the Scan tab and tap + to add a payment method
In the Starbucks app, open the Scan tab and tap + to add payment. Link the card, PayPal or your mobile wallet to your Starbucks Rewards account.

Reload your Starbucks Card or pay directly
Reload your Starbucks Card from the linked payment method, or use it to pay for each order directly. Auto Reload can top up the card on a date or when the balance falls below an amount you choose.

Order ahead with Mobile Order & Pay
Place your order in the app, pick the Starbucks Card or the linked payment method at checkout, and choose café or drive thru pickup.

Order delivery from the Order tab
Tap Order, toggle to Delivery and enter your delivery address. Pay for Starbucks Delivers with a credit or debit card or Apple Pay.

Paying in a Starbucks store
In Starbucks stores, add the Halocard to Apple Pay or Google Pay and tap, or use the physical card from your plan.

Tips for successful payments at Starbucks
- AcceptedKeep each Starbucks Card at $500 or less. Starbucks caps the balance on any one card at $500, and the minimum reload is typically $5.
- AcceptedChange or cancel Auto Reload at least 24 hours before the next scheduled reload, because new settings can take up to 24 hours to apply.
- AcceptedPay for Starbucks Delivers with a card or Apple Pay. A Starbucks Card balance cannot pay for delivery orders.
- AcceptedKeep a Starbucks Delivers order at $100 or less before taxes, tip and fees, the limit Starbucks may apply to one delivery order.
Why do Starbucks payments decline?
- Starbucks Card reload not going through
- Make sure the name and address on your Starbucks account match exactly what your card issuer has on file, and that the expiry date and security code are correct. Update them after a move or name change.
- Reload would push the card over its balance cap
- A Starbucks Card can hold no more than $500, and no more than $2,000 can pass through one card in a single day. Lower the reload amount and try again.
- Starbucks Card refused at an airport, grocery or bookstore store
- Some licensed locations do not take the Starbucks Card. Pay there with a card or mobile wallet, or use the store locator to find a store that lists Digital Rewards.
- Card or balance limited after a fraud check
- Starbucks may refuse or limit a Starbucks Card it believes is used without authorization. Call 1-800-STARBUC if your card was disabled in error.

Does Starbucks accept Apple Pay?
Yes. Starbucks names Apple Pay as a way to reload a Starbucks Card and to pay for Starbucks Delivers orders in the app or on its website. In stores, members can scan the app barcode and then pay with a mobile wallet.
Does Starbucks take cash?
Yes, in stores. Members can scan their barcode in the Starbucks app and then pay with cash, a credit card, a debit card or a mobile wallet. Cash cannot be used in the app.
Does Starbucks take Venmo?
Only for some Starbucks Delivers orders. Starbucks says delivery orders can be paid with a credit or debit card, Apple Pay and, in some instances, Venmo depending on the platform. A Starbucks Card cannot pay for delivery.
How do I reload my Starbucks Card?
Reload at a participating store, on the Starbucks card page online or in the Starbucks app. You can also set up Auto Reload, which reloads your registered card on a set date or when the balance falls below an amount you choose. Starbucks also lists PayPal and Apple Pay for reloads.
How do I check my Starbucks gift card balance?
Register the card to your Starbucks Rewards account, then check it on the Starbucks card page by selecting Manage, or in the app's Scan tab. An unregistered card needs the security code from its back. Balances refresh every 4 hours.
