How to pay for Costco with Halocard

Create a card for Costco in Halocard

In your Halocard dashboard, create a new card, name it Costco and set a limit that covers what you are about to pay.

Sign in to Costco.com and save your membership number

Select Sign In / Register at the top right of Costco.com. Add your membership number in Account Details so it is linked to your online account.

Check out with the card

Select Cart at the top right, then Checkout. Enter your shipping and payment information, select Continue to Review Order, then Place Your Order.

Pay your membership with Auto Renewal

On Costco.com, open Account and choose Renew Membership. Add or select a Visa card for Auto Renew and tick the consent box.

Add the card to your Digital Membership Card

In the Costco app, open your Digital Membership Card and select Add Payment. Enter the card's expiration date, CVV and ZIP code, tap Save, and enter the verification code if asked.

Paying in a Costco store

In Costco stores, add the Halocard to Apple Pay or Google Pay and tap, or use the physical card from your plan.

Tips for successful payments at Costco

AcceptedAdd your 12-digit membership number under Account Details on Costco.com before you place an order, or a 5% non-member surcharge is added.
AcceptedKeep the card active until every item in a Costco.com order has shipped. Costco charges each item as it ships and can place new holds for items still waiting.
AcceptedThe Digital Membership Card holds one Visa card at a time and pays at warehouse registers, but not at the food court.

Why do Costco payments decline?

Costco.com payment rejected after an item ships: Costco says this happens when the card was reissued before shipment or the card provider closed the pending transaction. Keep the same card active until the order ships. While a rejected payment is open, you cannot place new Costco.com orders; follow the notice Costco emails you or call 1-800-955-2292.
Billing details do not match the card: Costco's pre-authorization checks the card number, status, available credit and billing information against the card provider's records. Enter the name and billing address exactly as the card provider holds them.
Error while adding a card in the Costco app: Check the card details first. After too many verification code attempts, log out and back in. After too many CVV attempts, wait 24 hours before you try again.
The gas pump does not start: Costco asks the card provider to approve a pre-authorization of up to $150 before fueling. Make sure at least $150 is available on the card before you start.

Does Costco accept EBT?

Yes, in its warehouses. Costco says all its warehouse locations accept EBT cards and that it follows each state's rules on what EBT can buy. Costco's payment methods list for Costco.com and its gas stations does not include EBT.

Does Costco take Apple Pay?

Yes, in warehouses and at gas stations. Costco warehouses take Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Costco gas stations take Apple Pay. Costco.com does not list either wallet; pay online with a card, a Costco Shop Card or Affirm.

Does Costco take Mastercard?

On Costco.com, yes. In warehouses and at gas stations, Costco lists all Visa cards but Mastercard only for FSA and HSA debit cards in pharmacy, optical and hearing aid departments, and for filtered spend cards. Membership Auto Renewal takes a Visa credit or debit card or a Mastercard debit card.

Does Costco accept American Express or Discover?

No. Costco's list of payment methods for its warehouses, gas stations and Costco.com names neither American Express nor Discover. It takes Visa cards everywhere and Mastercard on Costco.com.

How do I pay my Costco membership renewal by card?

Set up Auto Renewal under Account, then Renew Membership, on Costco.com. The card is charged on the first day of your renewal month: $65 a year for Gold Star and Business members and $130 for Executive members, plus tax. A $0 Costco Annual Renewal check may appear first to confirm the card is valid.
