What merchant category (MCC) is Paybis?

6051Non-financial institutions: foreign currency, money orders, crypto and quasi-cash
Crypto and quasi-cash purchases are classified as high-risk purchases by Visa and our issuing bank, so payments to merchants in this category will be declined by Halocard. See Halocard's merchant restrictions.

Why Halocard cannot be used at Paybis

Paybis is charged under the crypto and quasi-cash purchases category, which Visa and our issuing bank classify as high-risk, so Halocard declines payments to it on every card. This is a Halocard rule, not a Paybis rule. This covers every crypto purchase Paybis takes by card, including purchases made through the Paybis checkout inside partner apps such as RedotPay.

What you can do instead

  • Pay with a Visa or Mastercard from your own bank, after checking that your bank allows crypto purchases.
  • Use Apple Pay or Google Pay with a card from your own bank.
  • Pay with PayPal, Skrill, Neteller or Revolut Pay.
  • Pay by Online Banking (ACH) from your own bank account in dollars.

Paybis payment FAQ

What is Paybis?
Paybis is a crypto exchange, founded in 2014, for buying, selling and swapping cryptocurrency with cards, bank payments and wallets on paybis.com and in its app. It serves customers in more than 180 countries, and its widget runs the crypto purchase inside partner apps such as RedotPay. Its American company is registered with FinCEN as a money services business.
Is Paybis legit?
Paybis has operated since 2014. Its American company is registered with FinCEN as a money services business, and its Latvian company holds MiCA and PSD2 licences from the Bank of Latvia. Paybis says it will never ask for your login codes, and that unsolicited contact claiming to be from Paybis is fraud, so only use paybis.com or the official app.
Does Paybis accept prepaid cards?
Yes, if the prepaid Visa or Mastercard supports 3D Secure and is enabled for international online payments. Paybis takes personal cards in your own name. It also accepts virtual cards, but recommends a physical card because extra security checks may ask for a photo of the card. Business and corporate cards are refused.
Can I use PayPal on Paybis?
Yes, in most states. PayPal appears as a payment option when you pay in USD, and Paybis sends you to PayPal to log in and approve the payment. Paybis says PayPal is unavailable to customers in New York, Louisiana, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Vermont, Washington and Puerto Rico.
What are the Paybis purchase limits?
A card purchase on Paybis starts at $4, or $10 for ETH, ERC-20 tokens and DOT, and goes up to $20,000 per transaction. Skrill and Neteller run from $20 to $200,000, and bank transfers from $200 to $1,000,000 per transaction. Limits are counted over the last 30 days rather than reset each month.
