While Halocard has successfully processed transactions at CoinGate, this isn't a guarantee of acceptance. Merchant acceptance can change at any time, and merchants can apply fraud and risk-based controls that prevent individual customers from using US-issued cards at checkout. We recommend using Halocard to make a test payment with CoinGate in your own situation to confirm acceptance.

Check the card number, expiry and CVV, wait a few minutes and try again. Make sure online payments are allowed on the card.
Location mismatch or VPN
A VPN or an IP address that differs from the card's country can make a card payment fail. Turn the VPN off and try again.
Card option missing at checkout
CoinGate sometimes turns card payments off for maintenance or security checks. Try again later, or pick another method such as Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Order outside the card limits
Card payments accept orders from EUR 5 to EUR 2,000. Split a larger order into smaller ones, or pick another method.

CoinGate payment FAQ

Can I use a virtual card for CoinGate?
Yes, with Halocard. Halocard is supported for gift cards bought on the CoinGate gift card store when you pay by card. Halocard is a US-issued Visa credit card that works like a debit card, so you can make a card just for CoinGate and stay in full control of it.
Can I keep my real card and address private from CoinGate?
Yes, with Halocard. Halocard is a US-issued Visa credit card that gives you a separate card for each merchant, so CoinGate only ever sees your Halocard, never your bank card. You choose the cardholder name and billing address on each card, so your home address stays out of CoinGate's records. If CoinGate is ever caught up in a data breach, cancel that one card and make a new one in seconds.
Does CoinGate accept credit cards?
Yes. The CoinGate gift card checkout takes Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. Paying by card is free on CoinGate's side, though your bank may add a foreign transaction fee.
Can I buy crypto on CoinGate with a Halocard?
CoinGate sells crypto for a card through its partners Transak and Simplex at coingate.com/buy. Halocard does not allow crypto purchases, so use the card for gift cards on CoinGate's store instead.
Is CoinGate legit?
CoinGate has operated since 2014. The Bank of Lithuania authorised its operator, UAB Decentralized, as a crypto-asset service provider in December 2025. Gift cards are sold by Rewards Distributed, UAB, a separate company that is not a regulated financial services provider.
Does CoinGate accept PayPal?
No. CoinGate Gift Cards says PayPal is not currently accepted. Pay with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA bank transfer or cryptocurrency instead.
Why was I charged more than the gift card price?
CoinGate Gift Cards adds no service fee to the listed price. An extra amount usually comes from your bank as a foreign transaction fee or currency conversion charge.
