What is Halocard?

A US-issued Visa credit card that works like a debit card, with a separate virtual card for each merchant you pay. Set a spending limit, lock a card or cancel it from the dashboard at any time.

It cannot be used at Banxa, but works wherever Visa is accepted outside the high-risk categories that are unsupported.

Why Halocard cannot be used at Banxa

Banxa is charged under the crypto and quasi-cash purchases category, which Visa and our issuing bank classify as high-risk, so Halocard declines payments to it on every card. This is a Halocard rule, not a Banxa rule.

What you can do instead

  • Pay with a Visa or Mastercard card from your own bank, after checking that your bank allows crypto purchases.
  • Use Apple Pay or Google Pay with a card from your own bank.
  • Pay by bank transfer where Banxa offers one for your country.

Tips for successful payments at Banxa

  • AcceptedEnter your name exactly as it is written on your government ID, without special characters, so the ID check passes.
  • AcceptedFinish your ID check before you start an order. Banxa locks the price for about 3 minutes, and a first ID check can run past that.

Does Banxa accept credit cards?
Yes. Banxa takes Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, and every card payment is approved with 3D Secure. Card purchases cost about 3 to 5% in combined processing and interchange fees, against 1 to 2% for bank transfers. Some banks treat crypto purchases on a credit card as a cash advance, so check with your card issuer first.
Does Banxa accept Apple Pay and Google Pay?
Yes. Banxa accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay with a Visa or Mastercard card stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. A wallet payment runs on the card inside it, with the same fees, limits and merchant category code 6051 as a card payment.
Why was my card declined at Banxa?
Banxa says crypto purchases use merchant category code 6051, and a decline usually means the card issuer refused that code. Banxa also lists an unsupported issuing bank or location. Call your bank to allow the payment, try another card, or pay by bank transfer. Repeated retries can look like fraud to your bank.
How long does a Banxa card purchase take?
Coins typically arrive within about 10 minutes of your bank approving the card payment. A first purchase adds a one-time ID check that takes a few minutes. Banxa locks the price quote for about 3 minutes.
Do I get my money back if a Banxa payment fails?
Yes. If you were charged but the order was not validated and no coins were sent, Banxa returns the funds to your card or bank account automatically. Allow 7 to 10 business days for the hold or refund to show. After that, ask your card issuer, and quote your order ID if you contact Banxa support.
