Skrill FAQ

Is Skrill trustworthy?

Yes. Skrill is a digital wallet that has run since 2001 and belongs to the payments group Paysafe. In the US it is Skrill USA, Inc., a licensed money transmitter (NMLS 935195); in the UK it is Skrill Limited, authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority; in the EEA it is Paysafe Payment Solutions Limited, regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. It is rated 3.7/5 on Trustpilot from 27,849 reviews.

Is my money safe with Skrill?

In the US, Skrill says balances are held at Community Federal Savings Bank and insured by the FDIC up to $250,000 if that bank fails and the conditions for pass-through insurance are met; it adds that this doesn't cover a failure of Skrill itself, theft or fraud. In the UK and EEA a Skrill balance is electronic money, and Skrill's terms say the deposit guarantee schemes don't apply to it.

What is the Skrill card?

A card that spends your Skrill wallet balance. US residents can get the Skrill Visa Prepaid Card, issued by Community Federal Savings Bank, and residents of the UK and the EEA the Skrill Prepaid Mastercard. Each comes as a physical card and as virtual cards.

Is the Skrill card a debit card or a credit card?

Neither, by Skrill's own terms: they say the card is not a credit card or a debit card. It holds no balance of its own and gives access to the money in your Skrill wallet.

Does Skrill have a virtual card?

Yes. You add one from your Skrill account and it is issued instantly, with its own number, expiry date and CVC. The first is free and each one after costs $2.50 in the US and €2.50 in the UK and EEA. The virtual Mastercard is for online and phone purchases, and Skrill advises against using its virtual Mastercard to book a hotel room or a flight or to rent a car, because those merchants usually want a plastic card.

Who can get a Skrill card?

Residents of the United States with a verified Skrill account can get the Skrill Visa Prepaid Card, and the virtual card also needs a US phone number. Residents of the UK and authorised EEA countries can get the Skrill Prepaid Mastercard. You must be 18 or over, and there is no credit check.

Is Skrill available in the US?

Yes. Skrill operates in the US as Skrill USA, Inc., with a digital wallet and the Skrill Visa Prepaid Card, a US-dollar card issued by Community Federal Savings Bank.

What are the Skrill card fees?

On the US card: no fee on purchases, $2.50 for an ATM withdrawal, and $10 a year for the physical card, with no annual fee for a virtual card in its 2026 fee disclosure. On the UK and EEA card: €10 a year, 3.99% on foreign currency and 1.75% at ATMs, with a €1 minimum.

Does Skrill charge an inactivity fee?

Yes. Skrill charges $5 a month once a US wallet has gone 12 months unused, and €5 a month after 6 months in the UK and EEA. Logging in or making a transaction within the period avoids it.

How do I add money to Skrill?

In the US you can add money from a linked bank account, by wire, with a Visa or Mastercard, or in cash through PaysafeCash, and Skrill charges no fee for any of them. In the UK and EEA a bank transfer is free and other methods carry a percentage fee that varies by country. The card itself is topped up only through the wallet.

Does Skrill work with Apple Pay and Google Pay?

Yes. Skrill's cards can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay for contactless payments.

Does the Skrill card have rewards?

It earns Knect loyalty points, which you can exchange for cash vouchers and bonuses. In the US the rate starts at one point per dollar and rises with your Skrill level. Skrill's rules say points have no cash value and are cancelled after 12 months without a qualifying transaction.

Who owns Skrill?

Skrill is part of the Paysafe group. It trades through Skrill USA, Inc. in the US, Skrill Limited in the UK and Paysafe Payment Solutions Limited in the EEA.

How do I contact Skrill support?

Through its help centre: a chatbot that is available around the clock, a message form that Skrill says may take 24 to 48 hours to answer, and a US phone line open 9am to 7pm ET. It offers no live chat with a person.
