Skrill is a digital wallet that has been running since 2001 and is part of the payments group Paysafe. You hold a balance, send money to other Skrill users and abroad, pay merchants that accept Skrill, and buy and sell crypto. It operates through three regulated companies: Skrill USA, Inc. in the US, Paysafe Payment Solutions Limited in the EEA, and Skrill Limited in the UK and the other countries it serves.
Its cards are a way to spend the wallet balance and hold no balance of their own. US residents can get the Skrill Visa Prepaid Card, issued by Community Federal Savings Bank; residents of the UK and the EEA can get the Skrill Prepaid Mastercard. Each comes as a physical card and as virtual cards: the first virtual card is free, and each one after it costs $2.50 in the US and €2.50 in the UK and EEA. Skrill's terms describe both as prepaid cards, not credit or debit cards.
There is no monthly plan. The costs are in the fees: on the US card, $10 a year for the physical card and $2.50 for an ATM withdrawal; on the UK and EEA card, €10 a year, 3.99% on foreign currency and 1.75% at ATMs. An unused wallet is charged too: $5 a month once a US wallet has gone 12 months unused, and €5 a month after 6 months in the UK and EEA.
