Klutch Card review

Klutch is a programmable US Visa credit card with a free plan, cashback on paid plans and mini apps that automate your spending, and a good fit for US residents who want that control and are happy to link a bank account. Halocard is the better choice for most people who want virtual cards: it is for customers in the US and 120+ countries, with no bank account to link. Klutch comes in two forms: Klutch Spend, its base card, which spends collateral you load from a linked US bank account with no credit check, and Klutch Credit, an unsecured credit line. Its free Essentials plan includes 10 new virtual cards a month; Rewards ($12 a month) and Metal ($25 a month) add 2% to 3% cashback, a physical card and no foreign transaction fee. It is for US residents only. In May 2024, during the collapse of the banking-as-a-service company Synapse, customers reported Klutch credit lines shut, cards declined and deposits frozen, and Klutch reopened with new partners in mid-2025. Halocard is a US-issued Visa credit card for customers in the US and 120+ countries, with a separate card for each merchant and a billing address you choose.

Klutch Card FAQ

Is Klutch legit?
Klutch is a real US fintech, Klutch Technologies, Inc., founded in 2019, and its app was still being updated in 2026. Its record has a gap. In May 2024, during the collapse of the banking-as-a-service company Synapse, customers reported Klutch credit lines shut, cards declined and deposits frozen, and its site showed a waitlist until mid-2025. It is rated 2.0/5 on Trustpilot from 16 reviews, only one of them from the past year.
What is the Klutch card?
Klutch calls it an app-powered card: a US Visa credit card you manage in an app and extend with mini apps, small automations that create single-use or merchant-locked card numbers, set spending rules, track subscriptions and more. It comes as Klutch Credit, an unsecured credit line, or Klutch Spend, which spends collateral you load.
Does Klutch require a credit check?
Not for its base card: Klutch Spend has no credit check. Only Klutch Credit, its unsecured credit line, involves one. Its terms describe a soft inquiry at pre-approval and a hard inquiry when you accept, which may affect your credit score.
Does Klutch report to credit bureaus?
Klutch's terms say it may report account information to consumer reporting agencies, and Klutch has said publicly that it reports to the bureaus. Halocard never reports to credit bureaus.
Is Klutch a prepaid card?
No. Klutch says both of its cards are credit cards: Klutch Credit is unsecured, and Klutch Spend is a credit card secured by collateral you load, with no credit check. Halocard is a US-issued Visa credit card for customers in the US and 120+ countries. Halocard works like a debit card: you spend the balance you load, with no credit line and no credit check.
How much does Klutch cost?
Essentials is free. Klutch's terms of service price Rewards at $12 a month or $120 a year and Metal at $25 a month or $240 a year; its homepage shows $10 and $20 a month, which match the annual prices. Essentials pays a 3% foreign transaction fee, and the terms list late and returned payment fees of up to $40.
How many virtual cards does Klutch give you?
10 new cards a month on Essentials and 30 on Rewards. For Metal, its homepage says unlimited and its terms say up to 50 a month, adding that unlimited doesn't mean unrestricted issuance. Halocard plans count the cards you hold at once: 3 to 60.
Does Klutch have cashback?
On paid plans. Rewards earns 2% on eligible purchases, and Metal 3% on the first $1,000 a month, then 2%. Essentials earns none, and foreign transactions are excluded.
Can I use Klutch outside the US?
You need to be a US resident with a US mailing address and a Social Security number to open an account. Halocard is a US-issued Visa credit card for customers in the US and 120+ countries. Outside the US? You don't need an SSN, a US address or a US bank account.
Who issues the Klutch card?
Klutch's public pages don't name the issuing bank. Its terms name Pier Financial as the lender behind Klutch Credit and Dwolla as the company that holds Klutch Spend collateral, and refer to the card issuer only as the Issuer. Halocard cards are issued by Third National, a Non-Bank Principal Member of the Visa Network.
What happened to Klutch in 2024?
In May 2024, during the collapse of the banking-as-a-service company Synapse, customers reported Klutch credit lines shut, cards declined and deposits frozen; one Trustpilot reviewer described a security deposit that was not returned. Klutch's site then showed a waitlist until mid-2025, when it reopened with new partners. We couldn't confirm whether the customers affected were repaid.
How do you fund a Klutch card?
From a US bank account linked through Plaid. You pay a Klutch Credit balance by ACH or debit card, and you load Klutch Spend by transferring collateral from your bank. Halocard takes debit/credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer, stablecoins, or crypto, and never connects to your bank account.
Does Klutch work with Apple Pay and Google Pay?
Yes, Klutch's site lists both. Every Halocard can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay too, and both can fund your Halocard balance.
What are Klutch mini apps?
Mini apps are add-ons inside the Klutch app that watch your transactions and act on them: Single-Use Card, Merchant Card, Subscription Monitor, If / Then rules, Custom Autopay, Google Sheet Sync and more. Some are free and some are paid on the Essentials plan; Rewards and Metal include them all.
