Tips for successful payments at Grab

  • AcceptedAdd the card while you are in a country where Grab operates, then set up a GrabPIN so the card stays saved after you log out or update the app.
  • AcceptedPick the market where your card was issued on the Add Card form. For Apple Pay in Singapore, choose Issued outside Singapore for a card from a bank abroad.
  • AcceptedKeep your phone close when you add the card: Grab usually asks for a one-time password from your card's bank.
  • AcceptedSet the card as your primary payment method in Grab so new bookings use it.

Why do Grab payments decline?

The card cannot be added
Check that the card is valid and that every field on the Add Card page is right, including the market of issue. If it still fails, ask your card issuer to confirm online purchases and 3D-Secure one-time passwords are turned on.
The card is rejected
Grab says a card can be rejected by security checks on online payments, or because it needs to be opted in to 3D-Secure. Ask your card issuer to check both, then try again.
"Unavailable for this purchase"
In Singapore this message means the card's scheme is unsupported with Apple Pay. Choose a different eligible card to finish the booking.
The saved card has disappeared
Grab removes saved card details when you uninstall, reinstall, update or log out of the app. Add the card again and set up a GrabPIN to keep it saved.

Grab payment FAQ

What should I do if Grab declines or doesn't support my card?
Pay with a Halocard instead. Grab accepts it, and as a US-issued Visa credit card held in US dollars it is accepted at checkouts that are strict about card type or country. Halocard is available for customers in the US and 120+ countries, so check that your country is supported, then make a card for Grab in minutes. See the countries Halocard supports.
Can I use a virtual card for Grab?
Yes. Grab accepts Halocard, a US-issued Visa credit card that works like a debit card. Make a card just for Grab and you are in full control: set a limit, lock it or cancel it whenever you like, without ever handing Grab your bank card.
Can I keep my real card and address private from Grab?
Yes. Grab only ever sees your Halocard, never your bank card. You choose the cardholder name and billing address on each card, so your home address stays out of Grab's records. If Grab is ever caught up in a data breach, cancel that one card and make a new one in seconds.
Does Grab accept foreign credit cards?
Yes. Grab says most international cards are supported. Since January 2021 it has refused cards issued in a short list of sanctioned markets, such as Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria. Foreign cards pay a foreign payment fee: 5 percent on rides and food in Singapore from 1 September 2026, and 3 percent, with a minimum of THB 1, in Thailand since 7 December 2023.
What is GrabPay?
GrabPay is the name for all of Grab's cashless payment methods: the GrabPay Wallet balance, linked credit and debit cards, and other linked methods such as PayPal for select services. The GrabPay Wallet is the balance stored in the app, loaded from a card or another funding source. In Singapore it is issued by GPay Network (S) Pte Ltd and regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
Can I use Apple Pay on Grab?
Yes, in Singapore, for rides, food and mart. Tap the payment method on the booking screen, choose Apple Pay under Linked Methods and say whether the card was issued in or outside Singapore; cards issued outside Singapore pay a 5 percent fee. Face ID confirms each payment. Grab says Apple Pay works only in Singapore for now and depends on the market of your Apple ID.
Can I pay for Grab with PayPal?
Yes, in Singapore. Go to Finance, tap the Settings icon, choose All payment methods and pick PayPal in the Add methods section, then log in to PayPal to confirm. Grab describes PayPal as a way to pay for select Grab services.
When does Grab charge my card for a ride or order?
Grab places a pre-authorisation when you book and charges you only when the driver or merchant completes the booking. If the final fare is higher, for example because of tolls, the difference is charged separately; if it is lower, the extra is released. Cancelled bookings are not charged, and card holds are released within 3 working days or up to 30 calendar days, depending on the bank.
