While Halocard has successfully processed transactions at GoFundMe, this isn't a guarantee of acceptance. Merchant acceptance can change at any time, and merchants can apply fraud and risk-based controls that prevent individual customers from using US-issued cards at checkout. We recommend using Halocard to make a test payment with GoFundMe in your own situation to confirm acceptance.

Why do GoFundMe payments decline?

The name or card details do not match
Re-enter the name and details exactly as they appear on the card or digital payment account. GoFundMe says a mismatch is the most common reason for an error.
Several donation attempts in a short time
Wait 24 hours, then try again. Extra pending charges from earlier attempts usually drop off within 24 to 48 hours.
The fundraiser is not accepting donations
Check that the fundraiser is live. A draft fundraiser, or one where the organizer turned donations off, shows no donation option.
The donation does not process
Clear the browser cache and cookies, use a private window or try another device. Then try a different payment method, or contact your bank about funds and blocks.

GoFundMe payment FAQ

Can I keep my real card and address private from GoFundMe?
Yes, with Halocard. Halocard is a US-issued Visa credit card that gives you a separate card for each merchant, so GoFundMe only ever sees your Halocard, never your bank card. You choose the cardholder name and billing address on each card, so your real details stay out of GoFundMe's records. If you ever want a clean break, cancel that card and make a new one in seconds.
Will GoFundMe show up on my bank statement?
No, with Halocard your GoFundMe purchases, with the merchant name and amount, show only in your Halocard account, never on your bank or card statement. Halocard is a US-issued Visa credit card that gives you a separate card for each merchant, funded from your bank: when you add funds by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, your bank sees a single deposit labelled HALOCARD and nothing about where you spend it. What your bank statement shows.
What should I do if GoFundMe declines or doesn't support my card?
Pay with a Halocard instead. GoFundMe accepts it, and as a US-issued Visa credit card held in US dollars it is accepted at checkouts that are strict about card type or country. Halocard is available for customers in the US and 120+ countries, so check that your country is supported, then make a card for GoFundMe in minutes. See the countries Halocard supports.
Can I use a virtual card for GoFundMe?
Yes. GoFundMe accepts Halocard, a US-issued Visa credit card that works like a debit card. Make a card just for GoFundMe and you are in full control: set a limit, lock it or cancel it whenever you like, without ever handing GoFundMe your bank card.
How do you donate on GoFundMe?
Open the fundraiser and select Donate now. Choose to give once or monthly, enter the amount, adjust the optional tip and enter your payment details under Payment method. Confirm with Donate now and GoFundMe sends a receipt. An account is optional, but signing in lets you track and manage your donations.
What is the GoFundMe tip and can you change it?
The tip is an optional contribution to GoFundMe on top of your donation. Slide it left or right, or select Enter custom tip, to set any amount including 0. The total due is the donation plus the tip. GoFundMe refunds unintentional tips through its refund request form.
Why is my GoFundMe charge higher than my donation?
The charge can include the optional tip, which may appear as one combined charge or two separate charges. Monthly donations carry a 5% fee per donation, and a fundraiser in another currency is charged in that currency. Earlier attempts can leave pending charges that usually drop off within 24 to 48 hours.
Which payment methods does GoFundMe offer on nonprofit fundraisers?
Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards work on nonprofit fundraisers. The digital options there are PayPal and donor-advised fund accounts. American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Venmo are offered on other fundraisers.
Why does my GoFundMe donation not show on the fundraiser?
GoFundMe's payment partners and its Trust and Safety team review donations before finalizing them, so a donation can take up to 5 business days to appear. Avoid making several attempts. Contact GoFundMe support if it has not appeared after 5 business days.
