Tips for successful payments at DigitalOcean

  • AcceptedMake the card your default payment method. DigitalOcean charges the default automatically each billing cycle, and only a team member with the owner or biller role can change it.
  • AcceptedOn a new account, expect a mid-month charge when your balance reaches your tier's auto-charge amount, which is $25 on Tier 1.
  • AcceptedIf your team belongs to an organization, add the card in the organization's Billing tab. Its teams use the organization's payment methods, not their own.
  • AcceptedKeep a backup payment method saved. If the default fails, DigitalOcean tries the other methods on file before the account goes past due.

Why do DigitalOcean payments decline?

Card details rejected on the Card form
Add the card to Apple Pay or Google Pay, then choose Apple Pay or Google Pay under Add payment method instead of Card. Apple Pay shows only in Safari, Google Pay only in Chrome, Brave or Edge.
Bank flagged the charge as fraud
Tell your card issuer you authorize the charge, then pay again from the Billing page. DigitalOcean charges show with DigitalOcean in the name.
Card issuer requires 3-D Secure
DigitalOcean and its card processor do not manage 3-D Secure. Contact your card issuer to complete or manage the check, then try again.
Account past due after a failed charge
Pay the balance on the Billing page. The hold lifts once paid, but any Droplets that were powered down must be turned back on in the control panel.

DigitalOcean payment FAQ

Can I pay DigitalOcean with Apple Pay or Google Pay?
Yes. On the Billing page, click Add payment method, then Apple Pay or Google Pay, pick a card from the wallet and allow a $0 authorization charge. Apple Pay appears only in Safari, and Google Pay only in Chromium-based browsers like Chrome, Brave or Edge. If neither shows, check that the wallet is set up and you are signed in to it.
Does DigitalOcean accept PayPal?
Yes. Click PayPal under Add payment method and allow a $5 authorization charge. The prepayment verifies your account and is credited toward your first bill. PayPal payments often take several hours to post, and PayPal sometimes holds them for up to 72 hours.
Can I pay DigitalOcean with crypto?
Only with stablecoins, and access is limited, so the option may not appear on every account. DigitalOcean accepts stablecoin payments from over 400 wallets. Setup includes a one-time $25 authorization charge that is applied as credit against future charges.
When does DigitalOcean charge my card?
On the first day of each month, for the previous month's usage, in USD. Accounts without payment history can also be charged mid-month when the balance reaches the tier's auto-charge amount. You can pay early at any time from the Billing page.
What happens if a DigitalOcean payment fails?
DigitalOcean tries your other saved payment methods. If none works, the account goes past due: you get an email and cannot create new resources, though existing ones keep running. If it stays unpaid, resources are powered down and may later be deleted. DigitalOcean does not publish fixed timelines for these stages.
