Why do Amazon Web Services payments decline?

Card details or billing address do not match

Your seller of record does not accept the card
Find the AWS seller of record on your monthly invoice and use a card network it accepts. Accounts billed by AWS Inc. can use Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, JCB and UnionPay.
The card cannot cover the invoice
Make sure the card has enough room for the full AWS invoice, then retry the payment from the Billing and Cost Management console.
Bank verification was not completed
Open Payments, choose Verify and pay on the invoice and finish your bank's check. If it keeps failing, update your billing contact details, clear the browser cache or try another browser.

Amazon Web Services payment FAQ

What is the AWS charge on my card?
AWS charges show on a card statement as AMAZON WEB SERVICES or AMAZON MKTPLACE PMTS AMAZON.COM, and the description includes your invoice number. For AWS Inc. accounts the descriptor ends in aws.amazon.com. Match the number to the Invoice ID under Payments in the Billing and Cost Management console.
Why was I charged $1 by AWS?
When you add a new card, AWS sends a temporary 1.00 USD authorization to check that the card is valid and not reported lost or stolen. AWS does not collect it, and it usually disappears within three to five business days.
When does AWS charge my card?
AWS finalizes the monthly bill at the start of the new month and charges your default payment method, usually between the first and fifth day. The billing cycle runs on UTC time. ACH direct debit charges start within 10 days of the start of the month.
Does AWS accept PayPal?
No. AWS lists PayPal and Amazon.com gift cards as payment methods it does not accept for AWS services. Accounts billed by AWS Inc. pay by credit or debit card, and qualifying customers can add a bank account for ACH direct debit.
Does AWS accept prepaid cards?
Only from certain card issuers, and AWS advises against them. If the prepaid balance runs out, recurring payments can fail, and failed payments can lead to the AWS account being suspended.
